Dear Roses and Lilies,
For the holidays, NYX launched a few City Sets, each with 4 eyeshadows, a blush, a highlighter and a lip cream in it. Each set has a different color scheme and name. I treated myself to the Moscow collection, because of the blue lip cream.
The sets come in cardboard boxes, with a little magnet in each corner to keep them closed. The packaging is bulky, so it is not the most travel friendly set.
The colors look nice, however, and you can create a few looks, depending on your mood.
The eyeshadow colors are nice and wearable. The first shade is a good inner corner and brow bone highlight, and it pulls pink. The second shade (upper left corner) is a bit powdery, so make sure to tap your brush before going in. That is the shade I used all over the lid, as a primer, because it is a matte cream shade. The third shade, is a reddish brown that looks almost peachy applied. It is a matte finish, so you can use it as a transition or crease shade. The last shadow is a shimmery brown, that is a bit patchy when applied and harder to blend. Also, it reads more grey than brown on me.
Then come the two face products - a pink toned highlighter that gives a natural sheen to the skin, and a pink toned blush that also has shimmer in it for extra dimension.
I have already reviewed the lip cream here .
As far as the looks go, I did a daytime version, with a nude lip liner vs the Moscow lip cream.
I left the eyes subtle for this, for a no makeup makeup look vs. a statement lip look.
For the evening/party time, I really focused on the eyes and smoked them up. It is the kind of look I do when I test eyeshadows.
As far as longevity goes with these products, they are not bad but not the best either. The eyeshadows crease on me within 1 hour of wearing them. I have hooded eyes, so that is not immediately noticeable IRL and, sometimes, we love a creased, lived in look for the evening.
The highlighter and the blush lasted well for 7 hours with minor fading. The lip cream was not long wearing, because the liners I used changed the wear time and the finish in both cases.
Have you or are you getting any of the City Sets from NYX this year?
