Swatch time: Rimmel APOCALIPS in Meteoric Matte 307

Dear Roses and Lilies,

Let's continue with the mini series on the Rimmel Apocalips liquid lipsticks... yes, I still love them and want to talk about them and show you the seriously pretty and wearable colors.

The latest look you'll see proudly displayed below was initially planned out as a - nude lips, strong brows - kind of look. Then I remembered it's fall, so in with the deeper colors! Kept the strong brows (uhm, mistake?) and applied Rimmel Apocalips in 307 Meteoric Matte on my lips.

Three sultry lipsticks for fall, one pencil to match them all

Dear Roses and Lilies,

Now that summer's out and fall is in, it's time to bring out the sultry shades or buy some to experiment with. I've fallen in love with two lipstick shades from MAC and decided to give Dior one more chance as well. The two MAC lipsticks are Cyber and Hang Up, and I know they're old news by now, but I love them nonetheless. My third sultry lipstick is Dior's Hypnotic Red, which was a present and which I really wanted to use up, that's how much I love the color. It's been a year, and I barely used it.

Swatch time: Rimmel APOCALIPS in Atomic Rose 206

Dear Roses and Lilies,

Here I am, back with more raves about the Rimmel APOCALIPS line. Since I expanded my collection from 1 to a larger selection of shades and finishes, I am going to bore you for some time, before I'm done reviewing them all. And posting looks. :-)

Next up is one of the matte finish shades, called Atomic Rose, number 206. This shade, on me at least, is a rosy neutral/nude, that works perfectly fine with my pale skin. Being that I use a lot of nudes and neutrals on me pretty much every day, I really did not need yet another nude lipstick. However, the shade is so soft and pretty, and the product so affordable, that I caved. Which reminds me: I will do a post soon, with lip swatches on all my nude lipsticks, so stay tuned!

Back to my Atomic Rose - it looks very creamy in the tube, and equally creamy when applied. It does dry to a matte finish, which makes this lipsticks stick on for longer, as compared to the lacquer versions. You need to prep your lips before applying it, because, like with any highly pigmented lip color, this will highlight dry bits of skin. It does not look as dry, though, as some other matte liquid lipsticks other brands came out with lately.

Gerovital Happiness - Refreshing Moisturizing Cream

Dear Roses and Lilies,

I am back with another "dual language" post for you guys - a review on the Refreshing Moisturizing Cream from the Gerovital Happiness range.

Farmasi BB+ Age Defence Skin Perfecting Balm

Dear Roses and Lilies,

As summer slowly approaches, I tend to turn towards lighter coverages, for a lighter feel on my skin. I never really enjoyed medium to full coverage foundations, so I am a sucker for BB and CC creams.

The BB cream from Farmasi, going by the name of BB+ Age Defence Skin Perfecting Balm (yeah, I know, it's supposed to be "defense" but you got the point), is one of the best BB creams you can get for a very affordable price. But before I get into some details, here's the ingredients list:

Swatch time: Givenchy Le Rouge in Magnolia Organza 301

Dear Roses and Lilies,

The second shade of pink I got is really a more spring/summer color, in that it is more vibrant and more inviting. This one is called Magnolia Organza #301.

HOW TO: Apply cream eyeshadow without a brush

Dear Roses and Lilies,

Your get your favorite cream eyeshadow out of your makeup bag and you remember that you forgot to wash your brushes and/or sponge applicators... Or you simply don't like to use brushes and sponges to apply your cream eyeshadow. You decide to use your fingers, but hello! you've got long fingernails getting in your way. What to do?

Here's some tips:

Swatch time: Givenchy Le Rouge in Rose Dressing 202

Dear Roses and Lilies,

The weather outside is so nice today, that I had to grab a pink lipstick to go with the spring-y mood. I've sort of fallen in love with the Givenchy packaging of the Le Rouge collection, so I got two pink shades to brighten up my days.

One of the cutest pinks I could find is Rose Dressing #202 - a deliciously soft color, somewhat sensual, but quite cheery at the same time. It looks like a pink-y coral in the tube but, on my lips, it's rather pink than coral. This shade would suite any skin tone, as it will look vibrant on darker skin tones and soft on lighter skin tones. Or is it the other way around? :-D

The finish is semi-matte, rather satiny and the coverage is good in one layer, but gets better if you apply a second layer. What I noticed is that you need to make sure your lips are prepped and well moisturized before applying this color. Otherwise, it will look streaky and it will highlight dry bits of skin. As far as hydration goes, I can't say it's fabulously moisturizing for my generally dry lips, but it's ok, compared to other matte and semi-matte finish lipsticks. Other than that, it wears beautifully throughout the day. You will need to reapply, of course, because its staying power is not good, when you eat and drink.

Wouldn't you agree, however, that taking the lipstick out of your handbag and retouching in public is very feminine? Given that the tube is dressed in real leather, you would catch everyone's attention. I don't remember seeing lipstick tubes dressed in leather before, and this one is so rock & roll and so dark and sooooo Givenchy! Ultimately, it is also very me. :-)

And here's my Givenchy Le Rouge Rose Dressing look

Hope you enjoyed this quick post!

Gerovital Happiness - Mattifying Moisturizing Cream

Dear Roses and Lilies,

Moving on with my reviews and raves on the Gerovital Happiness line, here's a moisturizer for oily and combination skin that you would absolutely fall in love it. It will be love at first touch, in fact. :-)

But first, here's what's in it:

Dar, mai intai, iata ce contine:

Swatch time: Rimmel APOCALIPS in Apocaliptic 303

Dear Roses and Lilies,

This particular APOCALIPS shade is a lip lacquer version. The color is gorgeous and it should suit most skin tones and moods. This must be the iconic shade of the bunch, being that they named it Apocaliptic. It is a bit scary to name a lipstick shade like this, but this is what advertising is about - drawing attention to something - right?

I adore this shade, although I don't fancy lip lacquers very much. If this was a matte finish, maybe it would have turned out to be a bit dull. This way, it not only is a lovely, vibrant pink - but it has a glossy finish to die for. The formula is a bit sticky, as I found out while walking around the city in windy weather, but it is also moisturizing. It leaves a mild stain behind, so your lips won't look odd when most of the lipstick is gone.

Again, this liquid lip color comes in a tube, equipped with an easy to use doe foot applicator. With this shade, I found that there was absolutely no need for a lip liner, as it does not bleed and it has enough pigment to cover your whole lip and then some. :-)

The shiny finish will make your lips look fuller, which I love, and it will not highlight any lines. But you will need to prep your lips before applying the color, to get that perfect finish. Now that spring is just around the corner (at least here, in lovely Romania), and in spite of the trending nude lip, this color will help you brighten your day, any day.

The lasting power is not phenomenal, but Apocaliptic stays on for hours if you do not eat or drink anything. I keep it in my handbag for touchups, if that is the color I choose before rushing out the door.

Have you tried this shade? Which other shades do you own from the Rimmel APOCALIPS line?

Gerovital H3 Evolution Perfect Look - Wrinkle Blur Cream

Dear Roses and Lilies,

When I first saw this product, I said to myself "Wow! Gotta try this now!". I didn't know anything about it, but the "wrinkle blur" part caught my attention.

Before I get on with the review, here's the ingredients list:

Inainte sa trec la recenzie, iata lista de ingrediente:

Dimethicone, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Cyclopentasiloxane, Polymethylsilsesquioxane,Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Silica, Silica Silylate, Alumina, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Isononyl Isononanoate, Ethylene/Propylene/Styrene Copolymer, Sorbitan Oleate, Cl 77891, Cl 77491

What it says on the box that it does: " "soft focus" on the skin surface that optically masks wrinkles, pores and imperfections resulting in a smooth, velvety complexion." Reading this, and the list of ingredients, I came to this conclusion: yeah, it's a primer. I initially thought this would be some miracle cream that sort of fills in your wrinkles and fine lines, but this is really a makeup item.

Well, it's simple and it does what it says. I have used 3 similar primers so far: one from Bourjois, one from Benefit and one from Clarins. They all do what they are supposed to do - soften your skin, blur some fine lines and imperfections. However, one of them clogs my pores so I had to stop using it, one has too little product for the price (although it is affordable) and one is really good but expensive and it comes in a jar. Gerovital's version does not clog my pores and is really affordable!

In terms of packaging, Gerovital H3 Evolution Perfect Look Wrinkle Blur Cream comes in a tube with a small pump. I know, it sounds complicated, but it's hygienic and all you need to do is squeeze the tube a little while using the pump. And remember, practice makes perfect! There is 25ml / 0.85 fl oz of product in it, which should last you for quite some time, because a little goes a long way.

In terms of making my makeup last longer, this product helps my foundation stick better and prevents it from sliding off too soon. My foundation stays on a couple of hours longer, on average, which is great.

Have you tried Gerovital's Wrinkle Blur Cream? Do you like it?

Ati incercat Crema Blurare Riduri de la Gerovital? Va place?

Gerovital Plant - Micellar Lotion Cleanser - Why so disliked?

Dear Roses and Lilies,

Although this product from Gerovital Plant has not gotten very good reviews on the net, I thought I might help you decide to at least try it. Don't be alarmed, this is not a sponsored product, so my review is all the more objective.

This micellar lotion was launched as a result of the micellar waters frenzy. Lots of cosmetics brands followed in the trend launched by Bioderma, which, by the way, is still and always will be a staple product in my beautification room. The one from Gerovital Plant will be there as a back-up.

Here is the list of ingredients:

Iata lista de ingrediente:

Aqua, PPG-26-Buteth-26, PEG-40, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Glycerin, Poloxamer 184, Xylitylglucoside, Anhydroxylitol, Xylitol, Allantoin, Polyaminopropyl Biguanide, Bisabolol, Tetrasodium EDTA, Leontopodium Alpinum Extract, Alcohol, Sodium Hydroxide

Among the ingredients listed, there are some guilty of leaving your skin feeling sticky. Yes, I know, it's not something one would normally go for. But, here comes the good part. :-) I use this lotion whenever I run out of Bioderma, and don't feel like buying a fresh supply of it right away. What I am using the Micellar Lotion Cleanser for is removing my heavy eye makeup. Because it is oily, rather than watery and refreshing, it helps dissolve mascara and sticky eyeshadows more easily. It can also replace your eye cream, because it is quite moisturizing as well.

Going back to the sticky, oily feel, think of it this way: if you ever removed eye makeup using oil, you would get the exact same feeling you get with this lotion. So what do you do after using oil to remove your makeup?

I'll let you ponder on it and reply (whether you agree or disagree with me), in the comment box below. :-)

In the meantime, you see how the castor oil is the fourth ingredient on the list, which means the amount of it in the product is high. It is a Ricinus communis plant extract, used for many purposes. Here, it is used as an emollient, and together with the Edelweiss extract and the allantoin, moisturizes and conditions your skin.

For me, beside of the benefit of having my eye makeup removed properly, it calms my sensitive eyes when I'm extremely tired. Which makes all the sticky, oily feel seem irrelevant.

Hope you liked this post and I am eagerly awaiting your comments!

Swatch time: NEW Chanel Rouge Coco in 416 COCO

Dear Roses and Lilies,

Ever since I read about the launch of the new Rouge Coco reformulated lipsticks, now claiming to be "ultra hydrating lip colours", I've been eager to try out new shades. My boyfriend kindly bought me two of these lipsticks, number 416 Coco and number 440 Arthur. Today, I'll be talking about Coco.

First, what's in my lipstick:
Diisostearyl Malate, Hydrogenated Polydecene, C20-24 Alkyl Dimethicone, Synthetic Wax, Octyldodecanol, Polybutene, VP/Hexadecene Copolymer, Bis-behenyl/Isostearyl/Phytosteryl Dimer Dilinoleyl Dimer Dilinoleate, Jojoba Esters, Ethylene/Propylene Copolymer, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Polyglycerin-3, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Disteardimonium Hectorite,Tocopheryl Acetate, PEG-30 Dipolyhydroxystearate, Propylene Carbonate, Acacia Decurrens Flower Wax, Helianthus Annuus Cera Seed (Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Wax), Silica, Parfum, PEG-8, Alumina, Tocopherol, Tin Oxide, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Ascorbic Acid, Citric Acid

Of course, there is another part of the list, with ingredients it may contain (most of them pigments, titanium dioxide and mica), but that is already printed on each little box.

Moving on...

As I'm sure you've already heard, this is a new formula, which is supposed to moisturize your lips better. Compared to the old formulation, this version is shiny. It has, of course, more slip and, with the two lipsticks I own, more slip = less pigmented. Indeed, with 416 Coco, I have to apply several layers of lipstick to get medium opacity. I could not build up to fully opaque, the formula simply doesn't make it possible. The finish does remind me of the reformulated Rouge Coco Shine lipsticks, where there is more color, but the same shiny, almost glossy finish. For me, it is as hydrating as the old formula, in that it's not ultra hydrating at all. I do prep my lips and moisturize them before applying any lipstick. And it's the same as with any other lipstick I've tried (except for two other brands), where my lips start to feel a bit dry after 4 hours of wear.

This shade stuck on for 2 hours (I had something to drink and used a straw, then I ate) and then it was all but gone, except for the outline of my lips. It leaves a mild stain on the center of the lips, which is good, if you have a similar shade in a gloss version to apply on top.

There is no micro-glitter in Coco, which could have made it a bit similar to the old Clarins Rouge Prodige Coral Tulip lipstick. But the shade is still an orange-y coral, that looks a bit funny on its own, against pale skin.

Coco is quite light reflective, so excuse the pic. In real life, it registers more like a dirty orange, but that would depend a lot on your skin. I believe that, on a medium or tanned skin, this would look lovely. So, till summer's here, I am going to layer it with either a coral gloss or an orange one, to tweak the intensity.

I still love the color, even though it doesn't particularly suit me. And I love the name. :-)

Have you tried this shade? How do you like it?

Gerovital Happiness - Nourishing Moisturizing Cream

Dear Roses and Lilies,

Time for my next review for a product from the Gerovital Happiness collection. This time I am going to share my thoughts with you on a moisturizer made for dry skin.

Before moving on to the actual review, here's the ingredients list, as copied from the product packaging:

Inainte sa incep recenzia, iata si lista de ingrediente, copiata de pe ambalajul produsului:

Aqua, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cetearyl Alcohol, Ceteareth-22, Glycerin, Glyceryl Stearate, Persea Gratissima Oil, Xylitylglucoside, Anhydroxylitol, Xylitol, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Prunus Armeniaca Fruit Extract, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloydimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Sorbitan Isostearate, Polysorbate 60, Parfum, Tetrasodium EDTA, Sodium Hydroxide, BHA, Potassium Sorbate, Sorbic Acid

This cream is packed with moisturizing ingredients and it's formulated without parabens. Of course, there still are other preservatives, like phenoxyethanol, which you nowadays find in many products. And there is some alcohol and a mild, apricot scent.

Again, this product is not suitable for sensitive to very sensitive skin. I just tested it today, to see how my skin would react to it. Keep reading...

The first thing I noticed was the colorful and adorable packaging. This also contains 30 ml/ 1.0 fl.oz. of product, for a very affordable price. The packaging is recyclable and has all the necessary information printed on it.

When you take the cap off the first time, make sure to gently press the pump a  few times to get some cream out. The little sealing cap can be reattached, which means there is little to no air getting inside the packaging, to spoil your cream.

In terms of texture - what a pleasant surprise! I was expecting it to be one of those heavy moisturizers that I could never bear to put on my face. But this one is incredibly light and absorbs into the skin almost immediately. That's right, no rubbing till your face hurts. :-)

In ceea ce priveste textura - surpriza! :-)

In terms of how it feels - also surprisingly soft and moisturizing, but without the tackiness. You still would have to wait a couple of minutes before applying your foundation though.

There is no SPF in it, so I would recommend using products with SPF on top. For those of you with normal or combination skin - don't use this unless you are already using another cream with SPF. Otherwise, there is going to be just too much product on your face, which is useless and may start clogging your pores.

For my slightly sensitive and oily skin, I am only going to use this Nourishing Moisturizing Cream in winter, or when my skin feels extra dry after washing it with water.

Have you tried this moisturizer yet? Like or dislike?

Ati incercat deja aceasta crema hidratanta? Va place sau va displace?

xoxo

Fragrance love: Dior Hypnotic Poison EDP

Dear Roses and Lilies,

I first tested the new Hypnotic Poison from Dior in France, in February last year, right after it launched. I had been thinking about it for months before I decided I could not wait anymore. It wasn't only the deep red and black bottle that attracted my attention (shaped like an apple, which reminded me of Snow White's story), but the juice inside it as well.

What fascinated me was the huge difference between this fragrance and the EDT version. While still retaining the classic's oriental vibe, the HP EDP version is somewhat deeper and more mysterious to me. The notes these two versions have in common are vanilla, almonds and jasmine. Whereas the classic HP is somewhat fruity because of the apricot, plum and coconut and intoxicating (to me) because of the tuberose, the new HP is rather milky and "crunchy" because of the almonds and the tonka beans. A notable difference between the two is that Hypnotic Poison Eau de Parfum has licorice in it. A lot of licorice to open the composition. I love licorice candy so I had to try this fragrance as soon as I read about its release. Indeed, I love the way it is presented in this Dior fragrance and I think it makes HP EDP very special in the world of fragrance.

Another special thing is that the vanilla is not plastic-y at all. It's a sweet, gourmand vanilla, paired by crunchy almonds. The floral side of the fragrance is given by the jasmine and the orange blossom placed right at the heart of the composition. The orange blossom also gives it a slightly bitter scent, I believe, that should disappear if you apply the fragrance directly onto your skin, as opposed to applying it on your clothes.

Of all the notes, jasmine is probably the only one I cannot clearly make out. The rest of them stay with me all through the day, 12 hours of the day that is... As I mentioned before, the opening is a blast of licorice and almonds, sweetened up by vanilla. This delicious opening lasts for a few hours before the orange blossom announces its presence. After 9 hours, I still enjoy the licorice-almond combo and whiffs of vanilla. The drydown is smooth, round, warm. A very cocooning warmth, that makes you wanna dwell in it for ever.

In terms of sillage, it can be moderate or heavy, depending on how much you spray on. It is a strong fragrance - after all, it's an oriental one - so I wear it only when the weather outside is cold. I don't think it's suitable for warm and very warm weather. You can still wear it in summer, on cool evenings.

Or, if you're feeling audacious, you can wear it on a hot summer day, to shout out loud to the world that you are wearing Dior.

Hope you liked this post and that I've persuaded you to at least test this fragrance.

xoxo

Gerovital Happiness - Anti-Imperfections Serum Illumination Effect

Dear Roses and Lilies,

I've recently got several products from the new Gerovital Happiness line made by the Romanian brand Farmec. Before we get right down to my first review, here is a round up of the products I have in my collection:

Dragi Roze si Crini,

Am achizitionat recent cateva produse din gama Gerovital Happiness, de la Farmec. Inainte sa continuam cu prima recenzie, iata si produsele pe care le am in colectie:

The product I will review first is Anti-Imperfections Serum Illumination Effect with blueberry extract. This serum is for combination and oily skin types and it contains natural salicylic acid, which helps exfoliate your skin.

Let's also look at the ingredients list Haideti sa ne uitam peste lista de ingrediente

Aqua, Salix Nigra Bark Extract, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Sorbitan isostearate, Polysorbate 60, Alcohol Denat, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Glycerin, Vaccinium Myrtillus Fruit Extract, Potassium Sorbate, Sorbic Acid, Magnesium aspartate, Zinc Gluconate, Copper gluconate, Parfum

The alcohol and the fragrance are not at the top of the list, like you would find with some name brand products, but their presence is still an indication that those of you who have very sensitive skin should steer clear of this product, even if your sensitive skin has the tendency to get oily.

The second ingredient on the list is the salicylic acid, which, as mentioned, helps exfoliate your skin. This is a BHA (beta-hydroxy-acid) which will dry out normal or dry skins, so this is something to remember when reaching for this serum or any exfoliating products with BHAs, for that matter.

The product claims (paraphrasing): brings back radiance to your skin, gets rid of surface imperfections, helps get rid of discoloration and stimulates cellular metabolism.

Before getting down to whether it works as it claims to do, let me introduce you to the little purplish tube: it is a plastic tube - no jar, no glass bottle with pump, too heavy to carry around in your bag. The amount of product is impressive: 50 ml/ 1.69 oz for an incredibly affordable price. The serums I've tested till now only have 30 ml/ 1.0 oz. of product and cost a lot more. In terms of texture, this is a gel, with a lot of water in it (still, not as much water as found in the Garnier Moisture Match gel cream) and it applies smoothly. It gets absorbed within seconds and it doesn't leave any residue. Also, it doesn't feel tacky nor greasy on the skin, which is something I love. It smells of blueberries, and the scent stays on for a few minutes, if you do not apply anything else on top.

What I discovered after a few days of using this product (applying it mornings and evenings, after cleansing and before moisturizing) is that it does make my face more radiant, day by day. I am still patiently waiting to see if the discoloration around my nose and mouth will go away, but, for that, I'll have to keep using the serum for at least a month. In the meantime, I will enjoy the benefits of the salicylic acid, yummy blueberry scent and the velvety feel of my skin after applying the serum.

Swatch time: Rimmel APOCALIPS in Solstice 201

Dear Roses and Lilies,

I love love love lip colors, whether the are solid lipsticks, lip balms, crayons, gloss or liquid lipsticks. Since liquid lipsticks are so easy to use, I've recently developed a new addiction. From Sephora to Bourjois to Rimmel London, I love all of these affordable lip colors. From Rimmel, I bought a few shades, among which no. 201 Solstice, which you'll see a swatch of if you keep on reading. The APOCALIPS line was launched quite a while ago and the internet is full of reviews and raves, but I still want to add mine, while waiting for the new PROVOCALIPS to become available in Romania too.

But first, let's talk about the packaging: plastic tube, little doe foot applicator that comes in very handy and... that's it. Simple, nice, half see-through tube that reveals the color inside. The quantity per tube is 5 ml. / 0.169 fl oz, which should last you for quite a while. One thing you want to look for when purchasing one of these, is that some of the shades are lip velvets, so matte, and others are lip lacquers - satiny and glossy shades. Solstice is one of the lip lacquers.

The texture is thicker than a gloss, with perfect color payoff in a single stroke. Its staying power is good, but not phenomenal, especially if you eat and drink. It does leave a light stain, so you won't be left completely without color on your lips at the end of the day. It is a bit sticky, so beware of windy days. There is a mild scent I cannot define, which completely disappears after application.

It feels light and keeps your lips hydrated at some extent. I say "at some extent" because my lips get easily dehydrated and this liquid lipstick hasn't done a brilliant job in re-hydrating them. (But I am still very attached to my mini collection, because of the great price tag and wide shade range.)

No. 201 Solstice registers a bit too dark on my lips, because of my fair complexion, but it looks great on medium skin tones. It also reminds me somewhat of the lipstick shades from the 90s, which is a downside for young people, but looks great on 35+. I find this shade is also office-friendly, in that it is a decent color that should not distract anyone when you're talking to them.

There is a soft, glossy finish to it that will make your lips look bigger. And, if you cheat your lip shape with a pencil, it will make you look pouty and sophisticated.

Hope you liked this post and see you soon with some more swatches on my favorite shades!

Lasting Finish foundation by Rimmel

Dear Roses and Lilies,

It took me some time to test this new foundation from Rimmel, but it was well worth the wait before posting about it. I don't really like writing "first impression" posts, because you need time to test new products. Some products are lovely at first glance, but turn out disappointing on the long run.

So, moving on Lasting Finish 25H with Comfort Serum... The bottle (glass with a red pump and a red plastic cap) says "Full coverage foundation enriched with a comfort serum. Instant perfect coverage that feels extra comfortable and lasts all day. Sweat, heat humidity and transfer proof for up to 25 hours. Coverage that won't let you down." These all sounds very good, especially the 25 hours thing. I am used to adds that say 16h, 18h, 24h, but never a day and an hour. It is quite funny, in a way, because there is no way someone would keep foundation on for a whole day and sleep in it too. Or, at least, I hope no one is crazy enough to do that.

The first day of wear went on quite smoothly for me. I wasn't expecting anything miraculous, nor the foundation living up to its hype. What I can guarantee are the following points:

On dry skin, you really need to make sure you hydrate prior to applying this foundation. Since it is a long lasting one, it will look chalky on dry skin. The texture is not as runny as the one of other liquid foundations, but still soft, almost like a lotion. For oily skin, or sensitive and oily, this will work fine. I have to say, the alcohol is lower on the ingredients list, compared to some high priced foundations, which was a plus, beside of the affordability. The foundation sets within a minute, so concentrate on other parts of your face instead of applying powder or blusher right away. It smells soft, creamy and it will not disturb your nose.

The coverage, you can immediately see it's medium but buildable to full. It covers minor blemishes and stays put for hours. Now, on my oily skin, the oil starts to peek through after 5 hours of wear, without powder on top. With powder, I can do without blotting for around 6 hours. I imagine that, on dry or normal skin, it wears a lot longer. However, up to 25h does not necessarily mean that it will last that long. It is somewhat sweat proof, but don't think you won't feel sticky if you wear this foundation and do a lot of workout. :-) I  haven't had the chance to test it in heat, because winter's still here. And in summer, we all like lighter products anyway, don't we?

Going back to the coverage feature, I must say I hate it. I find that full coverage foundations make your face look lifeless and flat. What many makeup artists recommend is using a great concealer for the areas you need it, instead of caking on foundation and powder. In my opinion, a full coverage foundation is for extended wear, because, being denser in pigment and everything else, it may absorb more oil than a light to medium coverage foundation. Am I right?

So what to do to get more mileage out of the bottle? Combine it with moisturizer, of course. It will thin the foundation out a bit or more, depending on how much moisturizer you add. I like to add a bit of foundation to my moisturizer, meaning that there will be more moisturizer than foundation in the mix. Which, I suppose, is quite close to a BB cream. For a month or so, I used Clinique's DDMG (Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel), because a gel cream mixes beautifully with this foundation. Now that I ran out of Clinique, and because I am also testing a different moisturizer, I am using Garnier's Moisture Match for dull and tired skin. This one is also a gel textured moisturizer (which I will review more in depth at a later time), that helps moisturize my skin while I am wearing the foundation. So, a swipe of Bioderma all over my face to prep the skin, then put a pea sized amount of Garnier on the back of my hand, add half a pump of Lasting Finish and mix it with my fingers.

I tried using a foundation brush, a long time ago, but I found it to be a boring application method. So I ditched the brush (well, not quite, because it may be useful for applying powder) and kept on using my fingers. I'm sure you've heard this over and over again, but the warmth of your fingers helps mix the foundation with the moisturizer better and helps applying it easier. Also, your fingers will not absorb extra product like sponges and brushes do, and they are easily washable.

When the foundation is mixed with moisturizer, the finish is much more luminous and the coverage is lighter. The shade I bought, by the way, is #100 Ivory, which is the lightest one, I believe. So very pale girls will need to mix the foundation with a white base to lighten it more.

All in all, I am happy with Rimmel's new Lasting Finish. So, ladies and gentlemen, next time you go to your local store, don't dismiss this foundation because of the low price point. Give it a try if you find the right shade for you. You get the coverage, the 30 ml (1 fl oz) and the nice feel on your skin for a lot less than you'd spend on a premium brand foundation. Not to mention, it has SPF 20 and it photographs well in spite of the high SPF.

Till next time
